When your doctor has recorded the history, examination findings and investigation results it would be unusual if there was only one problem to be resolved. Sometimes the combination will point in the direction of a specific treatment: for example, if there are heavy periods, the uterus is enlarged by fibroids and a patient wishes to be sterilised, hysterectomy would be an obvious choice. More often, the problems to be resolved do not lead to a common pathway. An example would be a combination of moderate premenstrual syndrome (Premenstrual Syndrome - PMS) and vulval warts (4). Here two separate lines of treatment are required.
