The human papilloma virus is responsible for warts. The virus is transmitted by direct contact. Some types of HPV are responsible for pre-malignant and malignant conditions of the cervix (12). Warts can be destroyed by chemicals (notably podophyllin), cautery, laser and freezing (cryotherapy).
